NOMA

STUDIO NABENA + PARTNERS is a holistic design studio founded in 2013. Their design philosophy and ideology are motivated more by the end users + their spatial experience than form.

Neen's project - This contemporary landscape project is designed to appeal to the eclectic needs of the client & her adorable dogs (Romeo & Silas). The design brings a fusion of materials (concrete, wood, turf), color (complimentary, tone, shade), texture (fine, rough, pattern) + time (existing, old, history).

Passing through the existing Percola, the central Entertainment Deck is flanked by seating, planter and veggie boxes.  By deconstructing the program elements and remaining sensitive to building's rear sliding door, the result is a clear correlation between the interior & exterior space.

THE PROGRAM

ENTERTAINMENT DECK
A "L-shape" reinforced concrete seating was specifically used to funnel users from the south sliding door to the entertainment deck still keeping an open circulation space towards the existing pergola. The "L-shape" reinforced concrete is finished with horizontal redwood slats spaced 1" apart - thus articulating the existing lap siding finish on the building wall. On both ends of the "L-shape" seating are cantilevered pressure treated wood finish with 2x6 redwood thus revealing an alluring illumination at night from the recessed light source under each cantilevered ends.

GATEWAY (EXISTING PERGOLA)
The pergola is flanked by new Jasmine planter boxes and emphasize a shift in spatial experience revealing an array of reinforced concrete pavers/pads (Permeable walkway) delineated by 2-3" beach pebbles.

JAS-TINATION (JASMINE + DESTINATION)
are an array of 3 different species of Jasmine (Jasminum nitidum, Jasminum polyanthum & Jasminum officinale) planted along the fence ushered by an assortment of reinforced concrete pavers/pads.

PLANTER BOXES (VEGGIE BOXES) reflect the healthy, fresh food consciousness of the client.

Materials:
Concrete Pavers, Reinforced Concrete, Redwood, Beach Pebbles
